v2rayN

Recommended 7.24.1

Use v2rayN to manage subscription groups, routing rules, and your local proxy. Both downloads below are for Windows x64; they mainly differ in interface technology and desktop experience. Start with Desktop if this is your first time. If you’re used to the classic layout, choose WPF.

Desktop edition Windows · x64 · ZIP Download v2rayN Desktop

Features a next-generation cross-platform UI. A good fit for first-time users and anyone who wants a similar workflow across desktop operating systems. Once downloaded, extract the files and run the installer inside. Don’t launch it from the archive preview.

Classic WPF edition Windows · x64 · ZIP Download v2rayN WPF

Uses the classic Windows interface and is the established edition. A good fit if you already have a familiar workflow. Back up your subscriptions and settings before switching editions. Keep each edition’s program files in a separate folder.

OS compatibilityUse a supported Windows version where possibleWhether an older OS can run the client depends on the current release and its runtime dependencies. Being able to extract the archive doesn’t guarantee compatibility.
Program folderRead and write access for your accountExtract all files before installing or launching. Don’t let a sync tool move the program folder while the client is running.
Connection permissionsCheck system proxy and TUN separatelyFor regular browser use, test the system proxy first. If you need TUN, follow the client’s permission prompts.

Close any older client before installing, and check that it’s no longer running in the system tray. On first launch, import a subscription and make sure valid servers appear in the list. Then select a server and enable the system proxy. If a listening port is already in use, look for an old process or another proxy app instead of reinstalling. When you’re done testing, clear the system proxy in the client before exiting so the system won’t keep pointing to a stopped local port.

After installation: setup steps

Check installation, import, and connection separately to pinpoint problems faster.

  1. Prepare a subscription or share link

Provide a configuration you’re authorized to use. The client reads your configuration and connects to the service; the installer doesn’t include a ready-to-use remote service. Check subscription URLs for spaces or line breaks when copying. Don’t post URLs containing personal access credentials in public forums.

  2. Import your configuration and update the server list

On desktop, create a subscription group, enter the URL, and update it. On Android, import a subscription or share link from the relevant menu. Make sure the entries appear in the list after the update. A failed subscription request and a failed connection to a remote server happen at different stages; check the relevant logs separately.

  3. Choose one way to route traffic

On desktop, test the system proxy first and consider TUN if needed. On Android, approve the system VPN prompt. Once you’ve chosen a connection method, check your routing rules. The system proxy controls how apps connect to the local port; routing rules control where traffic goes. They’re separate settings.

  4. Test the connection with real traffic

Select a server, visit a page you want to test, and compare the result with the connection logs. A toggle in the interface isn’t a substitute for testing actual access. If something goes wrong, note when it happened and check the corresponding logs. Investigate the port, DNS, and remote configuration before deciding whether to update the client.

Windows Desktop or WPF: Which Edition Should You Choose?

New users can start with v2rayN Desktop, which features a next-generation cross-platform interface. If you prefer the classic Windows layout, choose WPF, the established edition. Both downloads are for x64. Before upgrading, back up your subscription groups, routing rules, and personal settings. Do not overwrite one edition’s program folder with the other.

Android: Should You Download arm64 or Universal?

For most phones released since 2015, arm64 is a good first choice, but use the app architectures supported by your device as the final guide. Choose Universal if your device uses another architecture, runs an older system, or you’re unsure. If APK installation fails to parse, also check your Android version, whether the download completed, and whether an older install has a different signing key.

Do You Need a Subscription After Downloading the Client?

You’ll need to provide a subscription URL, share link, or configuration file that you’re authorized to use. The installer provides a GUI client, not a ready-to-use service configuration. After installation, add a subscription group, update it, select a server, and configure the system proxy or VPN connection. Installing the app alone won’t establish a proxy connection.

How Do You Keep Your Settings When Updating the Client?

Export your settings from the client or back up the configuration directory it actually uses. Note your local port, routing mode, and subscription groups, then close the client before upgrading. Don’t share backups containing subscription URLs or connection details. After updating, make sure the configuration loads before testing the connection. Setting names may change between versions.

Can’t Connect After Installation? Should You Download Again?

First identify whether the issue occurs during installation, startup, or connection. If the client opens normally, check subscription updates, server selection, system proxy or VPN status, and the logs. Connection refusals, DNS timeouts, and local port conflicts require different troubleshooting steps; downloading again usually won’t fix configuration issues.

Should You Enable Both the System Proxy and TUN?

For your initial setup, enable just one connection method. On desktop, start with the system proxy and confirm your browser connects before considering TUN for your apps. TUN typically requires extra permissions and a virtual network interface. Android clients use the system VPN permission flow, which differs from the desktop system proxy settings.
